The Business Benefits of Inline Color Quality Management

Fully Revised and Expanded

Inline color quality management for flexographic printing.

What is flexographic printing?

Flexographic, or flexo printing, is a high-speed printing process that uses flexible plates to transfer ink onto a wide variety of substrates, including paper, plastic, and metallic films. It is especially popular in the packaging and labeling industries due to its versatility, efficiency, and ability to handle large-scale print runs with consistent quality. Flexographic presses are designed for long production runs and are capable of printing on both absorbent and non-absorbent materials, making them ideal for food packaging, labels, and other commercial applications.

How does flexographic printing work?

Flexographic printing works by mounting flexible plates onto rotating cylinders. These plates carry the ink from the anilox roller to the substrate, transferring the image during each rotation. One of the biggest advancements in flexo printing is inline color quality control. With customer demands for color accuracy growing, flexo printers need dependable tools that deliver reliable results every time. Inline color management systems offer the precision and efficiency modern print operations require.

Inline color quality devices, such as Techkon’s SpectroVision, allow for real-time color measurements while the press is running at full production speed. This type of automated color management has never been more essential for flexographic printers. Getting color right the first time—and every time—leads to greater customer satisfaction, increased repeat business, and stronger profit margins.
