Description

The new Dens unifies three devices in one. It is a color reflection densitometer for CMYK color prints, a film transmission densitometer and a high-precision illuminated magnifying glass for the visual control of printing results. This cost effective entry-level instrument allows everyone to perform a fundamental densitometric quality control on the basis of the reliable high accuracy well-known from all Techkon instruments. The Dens indicates densities, dot area and gray balance clearly legible on a large color display. Automatic color and gray balance detection speeds up the measuring. In addition the device is easily operated by only three buttons. The whole measurement is provided in a split second.

What is a Color Densitometer?

A color densitometer is a device that measures the absorption of an ink on a printed surface. A color densitometer displays the measurement as a density figure.

What is the Purpose of a Densitometer?

A densitometer is a process control device used to measure the amount of light a color absorbs and represents it as density. This is important in maintaining print consistency, as it helps identify color deviations in the print run. Density is useful because it corresponds closely with the relative ink film thickness of most printing inks. A densitometer can be used for spot colors to ensure they do not drift out of tolerance during print.

How Do You Measure Color Density?

Color density can be measured using a densitometer to assess the absorption of ink at different wavelengths of light by measuring through red, green, and blue filters.

Types of Densitometers: Transmission vs. Reflection

There are two types of densitometers: Transmission and reflection.

Transmission densitometers measure light that passes through transparent materials like films.

Color Reflection densitometers gauge light reflected off opaque surfaces like paper.

Densitometer vs. Colorimeter: Key Differences

Densitometer: Measures light absorption; ideal for density.

Colorimeter: Determines color by measuring the concentration of primary colors in an object/ink; ideal for visual accuracy.
