monochromator, spectral analyzer (In French monochromateur) component in every spectrophotometer/spectrodensitometer which divides up the luminous flux of the measured light into its chromatic intensity components; 2 construction types: lattice (dispersion through diffraction, e.g. Techkon scanning head), prism (dispersion through refraction; disadvantage: greater weakening losses)
