2019 Photo Contest

Please accept statistics, marketing cookies to watch this video. Our 2019 photo contest was a huge success! We loved seeing so many different uses and settings for all of instruments, including the SpectroDens handheld and scanning densitometer, the SpectroDrive automated scanning spectrophotometer, as well as our PressLink closed loop color system. We initially reached out to our user base of pressroom supervisors, quality managers, color experts, and plant managers letting everyone know that the winner…

The Value of Inline Quality Inspection on Flexo Presses

We often hear printers lamenting about the pressure placed on them by brands to implement technology to ensure their presses perform to their expected capacity. Many packaging printers purchase multi-million-dollar presses outfitted with even more expensive viscosity control, ink metering and inspection systems. It seems every last detail is thought about when it comes to ink, substrate, doctor blade and anilox roll process control. These investments are in large part done to ensure the final…

SEE WHY THESE CUSTOMERS CHOSE PRESSLINK CLOSED LOOP COLOR CONTROL

WHY CLOSED LOOP? Closed loop press side color management improves the stability of your print processes on older presses. This is especially important as customers continue to demand greater color accuracy and color consistency from their print supply chain. Rather than turning away or losing business because you can’t meet a customer’s quality specifications or pricing expectations, modernizing your presses with closed loop makes it possible to deliver the right product at the right price,…

7 Signs that Your Pressroom has Outgrown its Current Color Management Solution

WHY COLOR QUALITY MANAGEMENT? Brand owners are placing ever increasing demands for zero-defect deliveries on their flexographic print supply chain. As brand owners continue to look for differentiation and easily identifiable brand colors across their product lines, they are holding printers more accountable than ever for color accuracy. Many ask printers to provide detailed quality reporting to prove the job adhered to color specifications agreed upon before the work started. As a result, the production…

Why all the fuss over SCTV anyway?

You can call it “SCTV” or “Spot Color Tone Value” or “ISO 20654”. But regardless of what you call it, this is a topic that has created a lot of buzz in our industry over the last few months. However, despite all of the buzz and media coverage, there still seems to be a lot of questions about what is it and how it can benefit printers. So here’s a quick explanation that will hopefully…

The Beauty of Color Transformation in Fall Foliage

This blog is inspired by John Seymour, also known as John the Math Guy (http://johnthemathguy.com/). Last year in 2016, John wrote a blog about his burning bush, the euonymus alaus, and the fact that it was starting chromatic transmogrification in September ( http://johnthemathguy.blogspot.com/2016/09/the-color-of-leaves.html). In his article, he picked several leaves and plotted the CIE a* & b* graph, as well as a spectral curve for each. Due to the fact that maple trees are quite…

This kind of real-time job monitoring provides immediate feedback to press operators regarding the color quality…

Components of a Closed-Loop Color Control System and How They Work Their Magic

Adding a Closed-Loop Color Control System is often the best and most effective way to breath new life into an older offset press. The result is automation which decreases job make-ready times for instant time and material savings but it’s also the “great equalizer” too, which increases the color consistency across individual press runs, over time, and even across multiple presses or different shifts of press operators. However, to better understand how the closed-loop system…
